What Is Your Data Being Used For?

Living in a data and technology-driven age means your information is plugged into many apps, websites and social media platforms. So, is it safe just because you’re told it is? Facebook recently admitted that its users data was being used to target voters during the 2016 Presidential Election (according to bleepingcomputer.com). If Facebook is using its users data for third party organizations to target advertising, what other apps or websites are using your data and why?

To figure out which apps are doing what on your phone, click Settings>Apps on your phone, and from there you can choose which apps have access to your data and information. According to Facebook FAQ, “when you block or remove and app or game from the App Center or your app settings, they’ll no longer be able to access any info about you.”

It’s hard; a lot of apps and even websites ask you permission to use your data and some even tell you for what purposes. But, others find trickier ways in to their users’ data and information. The best way to stay as private as you can is to give as little as you can and be smart about the information you are giving. Do a little research on apps or websites before you start plugging in your personal information, and use some common sense!
