Since Disney’s acquisition of Marvel, and by extension the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a common point of question has been the canonicity of the Netflix Marvel series. This includes shows such as Daredevil, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage. Daredevil’s civilian identity, Matt Murdoch, has made a couple of cameos in MCU movies, but it’s not clear if he’s already a superhero in those. We may find out soon, however.

According to a Variety report, Disney has begun developing a new Daredevil show for streaming on Disney+. A major reason that Disney needed to wait as long as they did is that the deal to buy the characters from Netflix included a clause that Disney couldn’t use any of them for at least two years. Now that enough time has passed, though, Disney can do what it likes, either creating a new Daredevil story from scratch, or building off the established one.

Details about the production have been kept confidential, but according to Variety, we do have two crew confirmations: Matt Corman as lead writer and Chris Ord as executive producer. Corman and Ord have previously worked together on several cable serials, including Covert Affairs, The Enemy Within, and Containment. As these are all mostly dramatic shows, the new Daredevil will probably follow a similar tone and setting, albeit one tailored to work in the MCU.
