Impeachment hearing progress with announcements of two articles of impeachment
Democrats in the House of Representatives announced on Tuesday two articles of impeachment against President Trump. The articles accuse Trump of abuse of power and obstruction.
Jerry Nadler, a Democrat from New York, said Trump “exercised the powers of his office for his personal benefit while ignoring or injuring the public interest.” Democrats accused Trump of trying to bribe the President of Ukraine to give him damaging information on presidential rival Joe Biden in exchange for military aid.
“Trump has engaged in unprecedented, categorical, and indiscriminate defiance of the impeachment inquiry,” Nadler said. “The integrity of our next election is at risk from our president who already sought foreign interference in the 2016 and now 2020 elections.”
President Trump maintains that the impeachment is a “witch hunt,” and says even the Ukrainian president denies he was pressured to provide Trump with information on political rivals.
“Nadler just said that I ‘pressured Ukraine to interfere in our 2020 Election.’ Ridiculous, and he knows that is not true,” Trump tweeted. “Both the President & Foreign Minister of Ukraine said, many times, that there ‘WAS NO PRESSURE.’ Nadler and the Dems know this, but refuse to acknowledge!”
Trump also accused Adam Schiff, a Democrat from California, of fabricating quotes and attributing it to him.
“Shifty Schiff, a totally corrupt politician, made up a horrible and fraudulent statement, read it to Congress, and said those words came from me. He got caught, was very embarrassed, yet nothing happened to him for committing this fraud. He’ll eventually have to answer for this!” Trump tweeted.
