Inside the playbook, reviewing the Cowboys-Giants game
The Dallas Cowboys erased an early nine-point deficit, scored three touchdowns in the fourth quarter and drubbed the New York Giants 37-18 on Monday night.
Dak Prescott, who intercepted on his first pass attempt, eventually threw for 257 yards and three touchdowns, and Ezekiel Elliott rushed for a season-high 139 as the Cowboys (5-4) beat the Giants (2-7) for the sixth straight time.
Giants rookie quarterback Daniel Jones turned the ball over three times, the last becoming a 63-yard fumble return for a touchdown.
• Will Gordon flash in Seattle? Receiver Josh Gordon, claimed last week on waivers from the New England Patriots by the Seattle Seahawks, passed his physical and is expected to practice this week. The Seahawks (7-2) play the NFC West-leading San Francisco 49ers (8-0) in Santa Clara, California, on Monday night. Gordon has been suspended five times for various infractions by the Cleveland Browns and Patriots.
• Who’s the early MVP? It’s easy to make a case for Seahawks QB Russell Wilson, who has thrown 22 TD passes and just one interception. Just don’t overlook Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey. McCaffrey, who has 1,244 scrimmage yards and 13 touchdowns this season, is the sixth player in NFL history and first since Priest Holmes (2002) with at least 1,200 scrimmage yards and 13 touchdowns in his team’s first eight games of a season. recorded 166 scrimmage yards (146 rushing, 20 receiving) and three touchdowns (two rushing, one receiving) in the Panthers’ 30-20 win over the Tennessee Titans. The Panthers are 5-3 and in second place in the NFC South despite the lingering absence of QB Cam Newton (foot).
