Recently, baseball player Carlos Correa announced that he had cut a deal with the San Francisco Giants, striking up a $350 million contract for 13 years of play. However, earlier this week, Correa’s agent announced that the deal had fallen through, citing a “difference of opinion” as the inciting factor.

“We reached an agreement. We had a letter of agreement,” Correa’s agent, Scott Boras, told The Athletic. “We gave them a time frame to execute it. They advised us they still had questions. They still wanted to talk to other people, other doctors, go through it.

“I said, ‘Look, I’ve given you a reasonable time. We need to move forward on this. Give me a time frame. If you’re not going to execute, I need to go talk with other teams.”

With the deal scuttled, Correa swiftly sought out a new team to join, and landed on the New York Mets. Correa has cut a fresh contract with the Mets on similar terms to the Giants deal, joining up for 12 years for $315 million.

“We need one more thing, and this is it,” Mets owner Steve Cohen told the New York Post. “This was important. … This puts us over the top. This is a good team. I hope it’s a good team.”

“This really makes a big difference,” Cohen added. “I felt like our pitching was in good shape. We needed one more hitter. This puts us over the top.”
