So…Many…Bowl…Games
If you’re idling around on an extended winter break, you probably had the TV on for part of Wednesday.
Lucky you. You could have watched the Foster Farms Bowl, the New Era Pinstripe Bowl and the Walk-On’s Independence Bowl.
Yep, big opportunities for sponsors to get their names on the screen and for empty seats to show up at the stadium. On and it on it goes.
As bowls have proliferated and serve as tiny appetizers for the feast of the College Football Playoffs coming next week, the names grow grander and the games less significant.
Perhaps you missed the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl. Never mind who played in it. How much, exactly, is R+L? And what does the total carry? If you’re good at math, you can tell us exactly how much Academy Sports + Outdoors Texas Bowl equals? In terms of TV ratings, probably close to zero.
Surely you wondered what the Cheribundi Tart Cherry Boca Raton Bowl was. Well, we’re not going to tell you.
Your friendly neighborhood blog’s two favorites? The Bad Boy Mowers Gasparilla Bowl and the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. Who doesn’t like a mower with bad intentions toward the lawn? And are there any infamous Idaho potatoes that would like to get in on this deal?
Well, today (Thursday) is another day. There are four more bowls to watch. Before the five on Friday. And the four on Saturday. We will stick with the Taxslayer Bowl on Friday. Who among us would not to have his or her taxes slain?
And why are no bowling equipment companies sponsoring bowls? We shall wait patiently for the day of the Bowl-O-Rama Bowl.
