Johnson’s plan for Brexit
Boris Johnson, the United Kingdom’s Prime Minister, is laying out a “radical” plan for his country. Johnson was elected on his support for Brexit, or Britain’s exit from the European Union. He also has a plan to deliver on campaign promises regarding health care and other issues.
Johnson ran on the campaign slogan “Get Brexit Done.” He says the parliament will pass his withdrawal bill by the end of January.
“Of the 25 Bills detailed in Johnson’s second Queen’s Speech in less than three months, seven are devoted to Britain’s departure from the EU – with legislation on trade, agriculture, fisheries, immigration, financial services and private international law,” The Journal of Ireland reported. “The key Withdrawal Agreement Bill (WAB) – which implements Johnson’s Brexit deal – would allow the UK to leave on 31 January, and deliver an implementation period until 31 December 2020.”
Johnson laid out his legislative priorities in “The Queen’s Speech,” which was delivered by Queen Elizabeth. British lawmakers are saying Johnson’s agenda proposes the most radical changes in a generation.
“We have no time to waste and we begin immediately with the most radical Queen’s Speech in a generation to deliver on the priorities of the British people,” Johnson said in the foreword to the speech. “Millions of people, many of them who have never voted Conservative before, put their faith in this government and voted overwhelmingly for us to move this country on and deliver change.”
