There’s a right way to rest
There are a lot of factors that go into a good night’s sleep. Everybody knows things like the sort of mattress you have, the darkness of the room, and the number of hours you get solid shut-eye all contribute to a morning in which you wake up well-rested. It’s interesting that sleeping is as important to your health as physical exercise!
If you don’t get enough sleep, both your mind and body will feel fatigued. It is more likely that you’ll make silly mistakes, have trouble concentrating, experience depressive symptoms, and more. It also puts you at a higher risk for serious health conditions.
Sleeping is so important, Oprah Winfrey has a sleep doctor, Dr. Michael Breus. He shared more things to consider to get your best rest.
One thing to do is establish a bedtime routine, because there is more to it then clicking off the light. Dr. Breus suggests setting aside time for the little things to get done before sinking into your bed.
You should dedicate an hour before bedtime to the small stuff to get done, like straightening out, preparing what’s needed for the next day, brushing your teeth, washing up, and stretching or relaxing your body. Those tasks should be anticipated, so they don’t cut into your sleep schedule.
Besides having a regular sleep schedule, something to remember is well-known: never go to bed angry! Any intense conversations should be put off until morning!
