Becoming Led Zeppelin has secured the full cooperation of the band.

While there are no shortage of documentaries about history’s most famous musical acts, only a fraction of them can boast of securing the full cooperation and interest of the band in question. One ambitious filmmaker has managed to break the mold by not only securing the blessing of a band for his documentary, but having that band be one of the most influential groups in rock history.

Bernard MacMahon’s documentary about the classic rock group Led Zeppelin has officially been titled Becoming Led Zeppelin, and it will feature interviews with all three of the band’s surviving members: Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, and John Paul Jones. There will also be archival footage of interviews with the group’s late drummer, John Bonham.

Becoming Led Zeppelin is a film that no one thought could be made,” MacMahon said in a statement. “The band’s meteoric rise to stardom was swift and virtually undocumented. Through an intense search across the globe and years of restoration of the visual and audio archive found, this story is finally able to be told.”

McMahon’s previous creation, 2017 docu-series American Epic, was a favorite of Jimmy Page’s, who sought McMahon out in 2019. “When I saw everything Bernard had done both visually and sonically on the remarkable achievement that is American Epic, I knew he would be qualified to tell our story,” he said at the time.
