Out of the numerous plays that have run in Broadway theaters, one of the most successful ever produced is Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman’s Wicked. The play is a prequel of sorts to The Wizard of Oz, going in-depth on the relationship between Elphaba, who would go on to become the Wicked Witch of the West, and Galinda, who would become Glinda the Good Witch, prior to the arrival of Dorothy Gale in Oz. The production was a commercial darling from its initial run to the present day, bringing in a $14.8 million box office profit in just a year’s time.

Today, we found out who would be playing the lead roles in an upcoming film adaptation of Wicked: singer Ariana Grande and actress Cynthia Erivo. As she revealed on her Instagram, Grande got the official call from the film’s director, Jon M. Chu, as well as bouqet of flowers from Erivo. The bouquet included a card that read “Pink goes good with green.’ Congratulations Miss A, the part was made for you, I look forward to sharing this musical journey with you.”

Grande sent Erivo a bouquet of her own with a card reading “Dear Cynthia, honored doesn’t even begin to cover it. I cannot wait to hug you. See you in Oz.”
