COVID concerns have put the awards show on hold.
Due to concerns about the recent surges in the Omicron variant of COVID-19, the governing bodies of the Grammy Awards, the Recording Academy and CBS, have announced that the 64th instance of the awards show has been postponed. No new date for the show has been announced at time of writing.

“The health and safety of those in our music community, the live audience, and the hundreds of people who work tirelessly to produce our show remains our top priority,” the organizations said in a joint statement.
“Given the uncertainty surrounding the Omicron variant, holding the show on January 31st simply contains too many risks,” the statement added. “We look forward to celebrating Music’s Biggest Night on a future date, which will be announced soon.”

The event was originally slated to run at the end of this month out of the recently christened Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles and hosted by The Daily Show‘s Trevor Noah. According to Variety, reserving a spot at Crypto.com Arena requires a ten-day lockout, and based on the arena’s available schedule, no ten-day slots will be available until this June. As such, if the Grammys are to be held before then, a new venue will need to be selected, which will likely complicate the process further.
