Colorado to host the 2021 MLB All-Star Game

The Rockies MLB franchise is celebrating the return to the MLB All-Star Game to Colorado at Coors Field for the first time since 1998. The 91st Midsummer Classic will be back at Coors Field with a bigger celebration featuring new All-Star festivities surrounding the big game.

2021 will mark the first year of hosting the MLB Draft will be hosted close to the All-Star Game and Home Durby Run with the Draft currently set for July 11 in Denver. The MLB All-Star Game is moving from the previous hosting city of Atlanta in response to the passing of the S.B. 202 law criticized by President Joe Biden citing the possible restriction of voting access for Georgia residents.

Denver Mayor Michael Hancock and Colorado Governor Jared Polis combined their efforts to provide facilities with services to support the All-Star Game with short notice. The MLB disclosed they chose the new Denver venue because the city already started the process of securing the resources needed to host a massive sporting event with short notice.

The MLB hopes to distance the sporting event from politics by moving venues and The Rockies have already begun the process of bidding for a future All-Star Game. The Rockies have hosted several visits from MLB staff supplying plans for security, hotels, and event space that took months of preparation to secure. The new venue will provide a new fan experience for MLB fans along with the anticipation of hosting additional MLB events including the Home Run Derby and the MLB Draft.
