The Book Giant Turns A Page
Barnes & Noble, a Fortune 500 company, the largest retail bookseller in the United States, and a leading retailer of content, digital media, and educational products in the country is operating 647 retail stores in all 50 states as of late last year.
However, Wall Street had considered the company road kill on the information superhighway due to their unexpected turn for the worst when they closed many of their stores….yes, we all remember when our favorite location shutdown and we were devastated.
Yet they seem to be proving resilient even though they are seeing major competition from Amazon.com and are expected to remain positive…you heard that right! Amazon may be dominating the industry but they are not in the clear. Believe it or not a lot of people still prefer to go to an actual book store, pick out a book, and read a physical book in their hand as old school as it may seem. And Barnes & Noble is more than your average book store, as it’s a great place to grab a cup of coffee, catch up on some homework, and a place to just sit down, and relax.
With that being said, the company even decided to close three fewer stores then expected in early 2016. Forecasters are now predicting an even greater turn around then expected and those who love to hold a physical book in their hand are jumping for joy!
Even though the company is continuing to see losses, that they are considering unacceptable, they are remaining hopeful that their company can eventually make a complete turn around. And for now, they remain in the game and are headed in a positive direction!
