Wit meets politics as AOC fires back at Trump with a clever comeback.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) is showing she can take a joke after former President Donald Trump trolled her over her recent loss in the race for the House Oversight Committee leadership.
Trump shared a post on Truth Social, saying it was “really too bad” AOC didn’t win the position, adding, “She should keep trying. Someday, she will be successful!” AOC, never one to shy away from humor, took to her X (formerly Twitter) account to share Trump’s message, responding with a laugh and a crying emoji, saying, “Damn you know it’s bad when even Trump is feeling bad for me.”
AOC had made a push to lead the committee, challenging more senior Democrats, but she was defeated by Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-Va.), who won the vote 131 to 84. Connolly, who is battling esophagus cancer, was seen as the more senior candidate, and AOC’s bid was met with resistance from leaders like former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
Even though she didn’t win, AOC remains a key figure in the Democratic Party, continuing to look for ways to grow her political influence. After the 2024 elections, where Democrats lost the presidency and both chambers of Congress, AOC is still committed to holding the Trump administration accountable.
Her witty response to Trump’s troll shows that, despite the loss, AOC’s sense of humor and determination are as strong as ever. She’s not backing down—she’s ready for whatever comes next.
