So Many Sports To Choose From This Weekend
Had enough luge and skeleton and snowboarding yet? Your Weekend TV Six-Pack realizes the Olympics is a Very Big Deal, but there is more to life than Alpine skiing and speedskating. There is basketball and golf and auto racing.
The NBA’s regular-season takes a break for All-Star weekend in Los Angeles and if you watch nothing but that and the surrounding festivities, then your heiner and your recliner will be joined in a perfect union.
The league’s up-and-coming talent gets its own showcase on Friday night on TNT at 9 p.m. ET in the Rising Stars Challenge. The NBA Talent Challenge at 5 p.m. on Saturday, followed by All-Star Saturday Night at 8 p.m. are also fun. And the All-Star Game itself is Sunday at 8:20 p.m. on TNT.
The left-turn folks kick off the NASCAR season with the Daytona 500 on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. on Fox. The drivers are getting younger and refreshing the sport – Alex Bowman will start on the pole. Hendrick Motorsport has assembled quite an impressive team.
The final round of the Genesis Open takes over CBS at 3 p.m. on Sunday. Tiger Woods was way back in the field after the first round, so you might not be seeing him over the last 36 holes of this event.
Your college hoop pick: Saturday at 4:30 p.m., Fox shows No. 3 Villanova at No. 4 Xavier. Villanova has had its issues the last week or so, and a stern test such as this may be just what the Wildcats need.
Olympic TV listings go on and on like The Iliad and The Odyssey, so we’ll try to abbreviate them: NBC has figure skating at 7 p.m. on Sunday night. That’s always a treat for the eyeballs, and you never know what the score is until it’s over.
Quite a weekend. You are forgiven if you don’t move around much.
