Breakout Your iPhones

Every day is “National (insert some random item here) Day,” but today’s one day we actually care about… and no it isn’t Bring Your Dog To Work Day because that already passed. That’s right, today is World Emoji Day, and Apple has its own way of celebrating.

For those living under a rock, Emojis have taken over the emoticon industry. All of us who remember dial-up internet know we would have to use our boring >:) faces on AIM messenger to express how we were feeling. Now, Emojis have given us a plethora of ways to express emotions we never even knew we had. And now, we have more representation (and more fruit, for some reason?)

We can expect to see red-heads finally represented on all human Emojis, a kangaroo and parrot, some superheroes, and way more: 70 additions in total. That brings the total number of Emojis up to… a lot more than I can count or will ever use in my life. In June of 2018, there were over 2,800 variations, so we’re bringing that number close to 3,000 after today’s update.

I’m sure we’ll continue to use the same 20 Emojis we have in our recent-use category, but there’s always that one situation where we spend 15 minutes looking for the perfect Emoji to describe how we’re feeling, and Apple has blessed us with even more options.

Happy World Emoji Day, all you phone-addicts!
