Baby Surrogate Helps Woman Cope With Infertility
Marie Mango, 38, from Kansas, USA, endured years of heartache after being told she was infertile – but now reborn doll Bella has helped bring happiness into her life. Marie Mango takes little Bella wherever she goes – and even strangers mistake the 18-month-old for a real toddler.
But the 38-year-old has endured years of heartache and depression after being told she would never have a baby of her own. Marie always dreamt of becoming a parent and while other children at school wanted to be dancers or vets, she knew that being a mom was her true calling.
Even as a teen she became the neighborhood babysitter, which she loved, thinking it would be great practice for when she had children of her own. But, her world came crashing down when she turned 24. Doctors told her she would never be able to have children due to being diagnosed with Turner syndrome, which causes infertility.
The devastating news caused Marie, from Bonner Springs, Kansas, USA, to spiral into depression as she desperately tried to find something to fill the ‘black hole’. As well as this, Marie was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis in 2014 that has slowed her down and made her feel incapable of being able to adopt.
It was in 2010 that Marie discovered reborn dolls on YouTube and she got Bella in August. She now role-plays with her reborn doll as if she is actually her daughter to fill the void left by her heartache.
Marie is looking forward to welcoming her next reborn, Liam, in December. She said: “I’m still depressed but trying to capture any happiness with my reborn doll. I’ve been dealing with depression since I was 24 years old when I found out I couldn’t have children. It came as a shock to me since pretty much everyone in my family can have children and had no back up plan.”
Marie shares her adventures with Bella on her Instagram and YouTube pages and with friends, family and loving partner, Andy, are all supportive of her hobby.
