Several top White House officials have openly denied writing an opinion piece published by the New York Times that details efforts to thwart the administration from the inside. The op-ed was penned by an anonymous source, and titled, “I Am Part of the Resistance Inside the Trump Administration.”

The author claims to be part of a group that has quietly been disrupting the policies of the administration, and claims to be a senior official for the administration. The piece goes on to detail the authors opinion that several in the administration are doing so in order to keep the president from damaging the country due to his unhinged nature, while maintaining the ideals of their party, as they do not claim to be part of the left leaning opposition to the President.

After the essay was published, many White House officials were quick to deny being part of this supposed “resistance.” Secretary of State Mike Pompeo denied writing the piece, and criticized the paper for publishing the piece.

Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis, Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats, and Vice President Mike Pence also denied writing or having anything to do with the op-ed. Trump heavily criticized the New York Times, going as far as tweeting “TREASON?” on Wednesday in regards to the piece, and following up with more condemnation while answering press questions.
