Just in case you need to do some last-minute holiday shopping
Christmas Day is a federal holiday, but it’s the only day of the year that nearly all private businesses close as well. According to USA Today, 92 percent of all businesses in the U.S. are closed on Christmas Day. Even Wal-Mart, which opens early on Thanksgiving to welcome Black Friday deal-hunters, is closed. So if you’re looking for groceries or gas on Christmas Day, where can you turn?
“Your mileage may vary on how far you’ll have to drive for any forgotten items but drug stores including CVS and Walgreens will be open on the holiday. So will several convenience stores including 7-Eleven, Wawa and Cumberland Farms,” USA Today reports.
As for food, your options are more varied. Many McDonald’s and Dunkin’ Donuts locations are open on Christmas. Food delivery services like Postmates, GrubHub, UberEats, and DoorDash will also deliver food from restaurants open during the holiday. Nearly all Boston Market restaurants will be open, as well as all Buca di Beppos. If you’re hoping to dine out on Christmas night, Chinese food is your best bet: “It’s a tradition for Chinese restaurants to be open Christmas,” USA Today reports. “Check with your favorite for hours.”
Some stores will even remain open for 24 hours on Christmas, including most 7-Eleven locations and some Circle K stores.
