A Sports Filled Weekend Ahead
It’s football (Canadian style) and futbol. Think of this Weekend TV Six-Pack as the equivalent of light beer. Hey, it’s still beer (argue among yourselves on the merits).
The CFL’s Montreal Alouettes and Winnipeg Blue Bombers open their season Friday night at 8:30 p.m. ET on ESPN 2. It’s football, OK? And the Blue Bombers have a quarterback named Drew Willy, which is a fun name. You’ll hear it often. We’d love tell you these two teams just don’t like each other, but who actually knows?
While we’re being eclectic, we’ll also recommend the PBWA Players Championship on Sunday at noon. That’s the women’s pro bowlers tour, coming to you from Ashwaubenon Bowling Alley in Green Bay. Go Pack Go! And Ashwaubenon is also a funny name.
Why should Green Bay have all the fun? It doesn’t. You can tune in to the Kohler Grand Prix, part of the Verizon IndyCar series, in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, on Sunday at 1 p.m. on NBC Sports Network.
The Copa America soccer tournament wraps up over the weekend as well. On Saturday night, the U.S. plays Colombia for third place at 8 p.m. on FX. The championship game is Sunday, matching Argentina and Chile on Fox Sports 1 at 8 p.m.
No weekend would be complete without baseball. You can check your local listings, or just stick with ESPN’s Sunday nighter at 8 p.m. pitting the Los Angeles Dodgers and Pittsburgh Pirates. See how we did that? Pitting and Pittsburgh? Well, we’re trying here, really trying.
So plop your heiner in the recliner, take a deep breath and remember that college football and the NFL are not too far off in the future (yes, they are). As always, watch responsibly.
