What To Watch During Your Holiday Weekend

Let’s get that Weekend Six-Pack open early. Drop that heiner in the recliner right this minute. The fun starts immediately, with a very unlikely story.

The University of Alabama-Birmingham, which canceled its football program in 2014, returned from two years of dormancy in 2017 marched right into a bowl game. The Blazers (8-4) play Friday in the Bahamas Bowl at 12:30 p.m. ET on ESPN against Ohio (8-4). The Bobcats are in a bowl for the eighth time in nine years.

Another bowl pick: The Armed Forces Bowl. Fresh off its victory over Navy, Army (9-3) plays San Diego State (10-2) in Fort Worth at 3:30 p.m. on ESPN.

The NFL offers up two Saturday games on NFL Network. Hint: Wait for the second one. At 4:30 p.m., the sad Indianapolis Colts (3-11) play the Baltimore Ravens (8-6), who are still bucking for a wild-card playoff berth. If they win out (and next is the miserable Cincinnati Bengals), they’re in. Better: The Minnesota Vikings (11-3) at Green Bay Packers (7-7). Green Bay is eliminated but this is always a great division matchup. Game time: 8:30 p.m.

Your best Sunday NFL bets: The Buffalo Bills (8-6), seeking their first playoff berth of this century, play the New England Patriots (11-3) at 1 p.m. on CBS. And the battle for the NFC South focuses on the Atlanta Falcons (9-5) at New Orleans Saints (10-4) at the same time on Fox.

Merry Christmas to all. May Santa Claus bring you peace, joy, a 65-inch TV and a brand new recliner!
