A Sports-Filled Mother’s Day Weekend
NBA and NHL playoff action are bit less hectic this weekend, but we will find plenty to occupy the hours we devote to absorbing our favorite sports activities. There’s always somewhere to turn and tune.
Let’s open with the NHL. The Washington Capitals, in the Eastern Conference finals for the first time in 20 years, resume their pursuit of the elusive Stanley Cup – they’ve never won it – on Friday night on the road against the Tampa Bay Lightning. NBC Sports Network will show this at 8 p.m. It should be worth the deposit of your heiner in the recliner. Saturday at 7 p.m. on NBC we’ll get a peek at the Vegas Golden Knights-Winnipeg Jets series in the Western Conference.
The NBA playoffs return on Sunday when the Cleveland Cavaliers visit the Boston Celtics for Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals. This a rematch of last year’s series at the same juncture, which the Cavs won in five games. ABC has this at 3:30 p.m.
The PGA Tour gets all the big names back together for The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra, Florida. The third round Saturday and final round on Sunday will be carried by NBC from 2-7 p.m.
The guys who go round and round will do so under the lights on Saturday at Kansas Speedway. You can watch the NASCAR Monster Energy Cup KC Masterpiece 400 on FS1 at 8 p.m.
If your taste is a little more eclectic, take a look at the NCAA men’s lacrosse tournament. Saturday brings us No. 1 Yale at home against No. 16 UMass at noon on ESPNU.
Sunday night baseball features the recently-awakened Washington Nationals (8-2 in their last 10) at the Arizona Diamondbacks, who lead the National League West. ESPN, 8 p.m.
Happy Mother’s Day to all you mothers!
