Weekend Sports Review
We love it when ranked teams meet in college football. Everything can be at stake at any point of the season.
And so, for your viewing pleasure:
No. 18 Virginia (4-0) takes on No. 10 Notre Dame (2-1) in South Bend, Indiana. The Fighting Irish are still smarting from their loss to Georgia. The Cavaliers own wins over two teams at the FCS level, so we will find out how strong they are against a very sturdy group playing at home. NBC shows this on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET.
If your taste runs to the Pac-12, No. 21 Southern California (3-1) meets No. 17 Washington (3-1) at the same time but on Fox.
Start your college football viewing on Friday night. What a great opportunity to plant your heiner in the recliner and to declare yourself immobile for the next 48 hours. No. 12 Penn State (3-0) plays Maryland (2-1) on the road in a Big Ten matchup. FS1 does the honors at 8 p.m.
The best NFL game is Sunday night – the Dallas Cowboys (3-0) at the New Orleans Saints (2-1). Gonna be loud in the Superdome. The Saints won at Seattle behind backup quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, who is replacing the injured Drew Brees. NBC televises at 8:20 p.m. Check local listings for other games in your area.
The third race of NASCAR’s Monster Energy Cup Series playoffs takes place at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, with NBC behind the cameras. The Bank of American ROVAL 400 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. This race is run on a road course, rather than circularly around the oval. Martin Truex Jr. has won the first two races in the chase for the championship.
Baseball’s regular seasons end this weekend. For one more look at the Chicago Cubs, who skidded from first place in their division on Aug. 22 to a playoff miss, check out their game against (oh, not again) the St. Louis Cardinals on Fox on Saturday at 7:15 p.m. They say there will be a lot of changes coming in the Cubs organization.
There’s your sixer. Watch responsibly.
