A Sports Fan’s Dream Weekend
If we were just to recommend watching the major league baseball playoffs, we could fill out our Weekend TV Six-Pack with ease.
But we like variety. So we’ll count the ALDS and NLDS as one part of our weekend’s watching and give you the usual smorgasbord of visual delights.
Be assured that your heiner and your recliner might never part.
Friday is the busiest of the baseball days, and it begins early. The American League gets the first two time slots, with Boston Red Sox-Houston Astros at 2 p.m. ET on FS1 and the New York Yankees-Cleveland Indians matchup at 5 p.m. on MLB.
The evening: The Chicago Cubs at Washington Nationals at 7:30 p.m. and then the Arizona Diamondbacks-Los Angeles Dodgers at 10:30 p.m., both on TBS. These series continue on Saturday, the former at 5:30 p.m. and the latter at 8:30 p.m., both on TBS. The ALDS resumes on Sunday with two games.
If the United States men’s team is to qualify for the 2018 World Cup, it must make a good showing on Friday night against Panama. That means at least not losing. ESPN 2 has the match at 7 p.m.
Saturday brings college football. We’re going to suggest No. 11 Washington State (5-0) at Oregon (4-1) because it will match two high-speed offenses. That’s at 8 p.m. on Fox. Earlier you can catch struggling Florida State (1-2) at home against No. 13 Miami (3-0) at 3:30 p.m. on ESPN. FSU has beaten the Hurricanes seven straight.
NASCAR’s round of 12 playoff begins on Sunday at 2 p.m. from Charlotte on NBC.
And your NFL offerings? As always, check local listings for your favorite teams. But we’re pitching the Green Bay Packers (3-1) at Dallas Cowboys (2-2) on Fox at 4 p.m. and then the Kansas City Chiefs-Houston Texans game at 8:30 p.m. on NBC. The Chiefs (4-0) are the NFL’s lone unbeaten team; the Texans are 2-2.
Enough? Ah, there’s never enough. Do your level best.
