Major League Baseball’s regular-season takes a break as the All-Star Game commands the stage in Miami on Tuesday night (7:30 p.m ET, Fox).
The big preview is Monday night in the Home Run Derby, where the Miami Marlins’ Giancarlo Stanton is back to defend his title against the such young challengers as New York Yankees rookie Aaron Judge. ESPN televises it at 8 p.m.
The biggest lead in the division standings belongs to the Houston Astros, who are up 16 ½ games in the American League West after beating the Toronto Blue Jays 19-1 on Sunday.
NBA: The Houston Rockets on Saturday signed standout James Harden to a contract extension worth a record $169 million, making the total value of his current contract $228 million…The Atlanta Hawks chose not to match the New York Knicks’ offer of $71 million over four years to Tim Hardaway Jr. The Hawks have now lost three of the players who were starters in their lone playoff appearance last spring.
AUTO RACING: Martin Truex Jr. ruled at Kentucky Speedway on Saturday night in the Quaker State 400. Truex won not only the first two stages of the race but the race itself in overtime. The win was Truex’s third of the season, his first at Kentucky and 10th of his career. He lifted his series-leading playoff point total to 28, giving a 12-point edge on Jimmie Johnson…Oldie but goodie Helio Castroneves, who hadn’t won since 2014, picked up his 30th career victory in the IndyCar race at Newton, Iowa.
