Trump Calls Out London Mayor On First Day Of UK Visit
President Donald Trump just landed in London for a diplomatic visit, but that didn’t stop him from lashing out at London’s mayor, Sadiq Khan, on Twitter as he touched down in the U.K.
“@SadiqKhan, who by all accounts has done a terrible job as Mayor of London, has been foolishly ‘nasty’ to the visiting President of the United States, by far the most important ally of the United Kingdom. He is a stone-cold loser who should focus on crime in London, not me,” Trump tweeted. “Kahn reminds me very much of our very dumb and incompetent Mayor of NYC, de Blasio, who has also done a terrible job – only half his height.”
Before Trump’s arrival, Khan made a video proclaiming that Trump’s values are the “complete opposite” of London’s values, which include treating women as equals and valuing diversity. Trump is planning to meet with the British royal family, including Queen Elizabeth. He will not be meeting with American-born princess Meghan Markle, whom Trump reportedly called “nasty” in response to Markle’s criticisms. Markle called Trump a misogynist and said she would move to Canada if he won the 2016 election.
Markle is on maternity leave from royal duties after the birth of her son, Archie, in early May.
Despite his ongoing feud with Mayor Khan, Trump said he is looking forward to his visit with the Queen and other British politicians.
“In any event, I look forward to being a great friend to the United Kingdom and am looking very much forward to my visit. Landing now!” Trump tweeted.
