Trumps excuse for involving Giuliani in Ukraine affairs

In the midst of impeachment inquiry hearings, President Donald Trump defended his decision to allow Rudy Giuliani, his personal lawyer, to get involved in foreign policy regarding Ukraine, calling Giuliani a “great crime fighter.” Trump has maintained he was trying to fight corruption in Ukraine, a U.S. ally, when he asked the country to investigate Presidential rival Joe Biden and his son’s business dealings in Ukraine.

“He’s like an iconic figure in this country for two reasons. He was the greatest mayor in the history of New York and he was the greatest crime fighter probably in the last 50 years,” Trump told “Fox & Friends,” a Fox News program. “He’s also a friend of mine. He’s a great person,” Trump added. “…When you’re dealing with a corrupt country–if Rudy Giuliani–he’s got credentials because of his reputation…When Rudy Giuliani goes there and you hear it’s a corrupt country, I mean it means a lot.”

Today is the last day of witness testimony in the impeachment inquiry against Trump. Democrats in the House have accused Trump of trying to bribe Ukraine for dirt on a political rival, as well as requesting a “quid pro quo” in exchange for military aid. Trump has denied the charges, insisting the impeachment inquiry is a “witch hunt.”
