Introduction

While the show “X Factor” has been the home to a wide variety of talent, some more amazing than others, every now and then someone truly unique shows up and sets a new standard. Not only did Wednesday’s star, Carlos Guevara, mesmerize the crowd and judges with his voice, but he had one of the most bizarre background stories ever seen.

This teenager’s story began at the young age of 12, when he was diagnosed with Tourette’s syndrome. Originally he admitted that he felt sorry for himself, but he was soon determined to get over it. Calling music a type of medicine for his issue, he buckled down and focused on building his talent up and refusing to let his condition hold him back.

Getting Here

”They tried every medicine in the book, and the only thing that could help me was music,” Carlos said, making it clear just how he was able to perform so well despite his potential disadvantage. The plan to stay strong seems to have paid off, as Carlos secured a position on the football team and class vice-president at his high school. However, things have gotten so uncontrollably intense lately that Carlos had to leave school completely because of his condition. He views this as just a temporary setback though, and has not given up on his starry-eyed dream of making it in music.

The Big Goal

This is certainly no light goal, for any aspiring young adults out there, let alone someone with a condition that is capable of impacting his ability to stay in control physically. However, as the saying goes “Where there’s a will, there’s a way.” Of course this is exactly the type of situation that the X Factor welcomes, hoping to bring out the best in talented performers in a classic reality singing show competition format. With multiple rounds to narrow down from a wide field of competitors, Carlos will have a tough road ahead of him if he wants to make it all the way.

What’s Next?

Nonetheless, the 16 year old from Lexington, South Carolina will continue fighting on in the upcoming rounds. He’s not alone, of course, with tons of support from family and friends who were backstage to keep him strong. It didn’t take long either before the crowd quickly became enamored, both from his vocal talents and from his amazing story. Of course, and perhaps most importantly, the judges were also swept away by the contestant with Julia Wayne going so far as to say she wanted to “full-on adopt him.”

In his latest performance, a unanimous consensus of yes was reached by the four judges with little to no hesitation, as Guevara has seen nothing but praise so far by all involved with the show. However, the competition will only continue to get more intense and the pressure will certainly continue to build, so stay tuned to FOX on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 8 P.M. to see if Carlos Guevara can conquer his dream.
