Cindy Holland is the person at Netflix responsible for supplying the world with addictive entertainment. Holland has been working at Netflix for 13 years and she oversees original series, documentaries and stand-up comedy. While she did not see herself ending up in Hollywood when she was a kid, she was always very interested in books, movies and technology.
When both HBO and Showtime had passed on Orange is the New Black, they decided to add on to the present story by examining the women’s lives outside of prison before they were incarcerated. They also show and explore how the women react to being confined. When deciding on whether to produce Longmire, she says that both the writers and producers were reduced to tears when going over the scripts. One of the issues that Holland has to deal with is being real with the actors. Some of the more famous ones are not used to being told the truth, but rather being told what they want to hear.
She also helps to find the balance between the story that the creators and writers are trying to tell, along with what the viewer wants to see. In order to accomplish having content that appeals to a variety of audiences, Holland and Netflix are geared toward showcasing different types of people and a variety of types of situations.
