The Revival

Last week, Square Enix shockingly pulled the physical and digital sales of its last-gen JRPG, The Last Remnant, from retail. The publisher didn’t divulge why the sudden removal of the game, but some speculate its because Square Enix is remastering it.

The Last Remnant was released in 2008, originally on the Xbox 360. It’s a turn-based RPG that’s set in a magical realm, along with magical items known as remnants.

The plot consists of a young boy, Rush Sykes, trying to save his kidnapped sister, and by doing so, he becomes involved in a political struggle, which centers around remnants. The game was revered for encompassing beautiful art and battlesystem.

However, the game was also critiqued for technical issues. As a result, the game was ported to PC and they fixed some of the technical issues. Many gamers were satisfied that the frame rate was fixed on the PC.

Initially, The Last Remnant was supposed to be on the PS3, but it was never released, which was the first time the RPG was never on a Sony console. The game is being remastered and Square is confirming that will be using the Unreal Engine 4. The game will be released on December 6, digitally. The game will also cost $20.
