Sharks of the Silver Screen

To kick off Shark Week, starting Sunday, August 10 at 8/7c on Discovery, we’ve decided to take you through a list of the best (and worst) movie sharks ever.

From the robotic sharks used in Jaws, to sharks with laser beams on their heads, and one of the worst CGI sharks ever created, it’s all here. And not to worry, there’s no need to fear these faux sharks because they’re confined to the glory of the silver screen.

The Best

Bruce the mechanical shark from Jaws was actually a collection of 3 mechanical sharks that worked in tandem to create the classic killer shark that every beach goer secretly fears.

Sharks with laser beams on their heads are not only practical, they’re pretty darn bad-ass too! Believe it or not a marine biologist actually tried out the whole sharks with laser beams concept… all in the non-invasion name of science of course.

The Worst

This feisty shark from Deep Blue Sea has earned a spot on the worst CGI sharks in history list despite staring alongside LL Cool J and Samuel L. Jackson. OUCH!

Do we even need to talk about how horrid the sharks from Sharknado were?… We think not!

We hope you enjoyed this best and worst list of close-up-worthy sharks, and be sure to tune into the real thing on Discovery Channel August 10 at 8/7c.
