A Little Pigskin On Turkey Day
Happy Thanksgiving! Enjoy the bounty before you. Save your friendly neighborhood blog a turkey leg.
It’s a great day to remember what blessings there are in your life and to put fresh batteries in the remote. You can do these in any order you prefer. Because we are thrice blessed with football games, courtesy of the NFL.
We are thankful for the recliner. In which we place our heiner. Here’s how Thursday shapes up (feel free to have dinner any old time):
At 12:30 p.m. ET, the Detroit Lions (6-4) play for the 78th time on Thanksgiving, hosting the Minnesota Vikings (8-2) in an NFC North matchup. Fox will carry this. The Vikings have won six straight; the Lions three in a row. They met last year on Thanksgiving as well, with the Lions pulling out a 16-13 win on Matt Prater’s 40-yard field goal as time expired.
At 4:30 p.m. ET, the Los Angeles Chargers (4-6) meet the Dallas Cowboys (5-5). The Chargers have not appeared in a Thanksgiving Day game since 1969. Welcome back, Bolts. The Cowboys are coming off a stinging 37-9 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night.
Your nightcap? The New York Giants (2-8) at the Washington Redskins (4-6). The Giants have won one in a row, which seems like a major accomplishment in this season of woe. The Redskins blew a 15-point lead to the New Orleans Saints and lost 34-31 in overtime in their last outing. If you are still awake and don’t have your head in the fridge looking for that turkey leg that someone gave to your friendly neighborhood blog, you can see this NFC East matchup on NBC at 8:30 p.m.
Eat. Watch football. And no talking politics around the table.
