“Lover” is the sixth Swift album to hit number one

Taylor Swift is smashing records with her new album, “Lover,” her sixth album to hit number one on the Billboard charts. Swift is the first female artist to have six albums sell more than 500,000 copies in less than a week. “Lover” has actually sold 867,000 copies in the United States alone in the week after its release. It’s the fastest-selling album since the release of Taylor’s last album, “Reputation,” in 2017.

“I just have to say to you guys, thank you so much for one of the best weeks of my life. I can’t thank you enough,” Swift said in a Twitter video over Labor Day weekend.

“This album is very much a celebration of love, in all its complexity, coziness, and chaos. It’s the first album of mine that I’ve ever owned, and I couldn’t be more proud,” Swift also tweeted.

Swift has triumphed over personal and professional challenges this year. A few months ago, music mogul Scooter Braun purchased the rights to Swift’s first six albums without consulting her, igniting a feud between Swift and Braun. Swift called Braun a “bully” and said she couldn’t imagine a worse person to own her work.

However, Swift got the last laugh when she and Beyonce were named the top-paid female artists by Forbes Magazine. She also won Video of the Year at the VMAs for her gay-pride anthem, “You Need to Calm Down.”
