We can only turn to the experts to analyze Jameis Winston’s latest disgraceful act.

Paging Mr. Gump, Mr. Forrest Gump. Your take? “Stupid is as stupid does.”

Paging comedian Ron White, Ron White, please: “You can’t cure stupid.”

Paging Mr. Einstein, Mr. Albert Einstein (or, as Joe Theismann likes to call him, Norman Einstein): “Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I’m not sure about the universe.”

We could go on with our panel of experts. It’s such good fun. Good, clean fun.

Winston, the Florida State quarterback, has a past more checkered than the end zone at the University of Tennessee. Allegations of sexual assault. An incident with a pellet gun. The filching of crab legs from a supermarket (leading some to call FSU Free Seafood University). Nice resume for three years on campus. And now?

Winston is under suspension for the first half of Saturday’s game against Clemson for shouting an obscene phrase on campus. It was lewd and crude.

Son, you know people have Twitter accounts and video cameras, don’t you? You know you are under a microscope. You know you represent the program, right? You know the Heisman Trophy voters won’t let this go as you seek a second consecutive award.

You know the NFL, which has enough problems with miscreants, will be putting this in your dossier and perhaps holding it against you when your day in the draft comes. These are nasty times. So don’t stand on a table in a campus courtyard and shout out obscenities.

OK, he’s a college student and he’s 20. He probably can’t help doing some things that smack of immaturity or downright foolishness. Maybe he’ll grow out of it. But maybe he won’t. And so …

Paging Mr. Harlan Ellison, Mr. Ellison: “The two most common elements in the universe are hydrogen and stupidity.”

Today’s question

Should Florida State have taken stronger action against Jameis Winston or is everyone everywhere overreacting to everything?

Answers in the comment box, please.
