As a soccer star David Beckham has won millions of fans all over the world. Having said goodbye to his illustrious football career, Beckham is now getting into a new career which is not familiar to him. Yes, the football legend is all set to make an important move into the acting world by making his Hollywood film debut in Guy Ritchie’s action comedy The Man From U.N.C.L.E. Although Beckham was reportedly nervous when he took to the big screen for the first time in his life on Saturday morning, there are widespread expectations that the soccer superman will also enjoy a popular acting career.

Nervous Star

The 38-year-old man from Leytonstone was said to be looking “extremely nervous” when he made it to the set to start to his maiden acting role. According to sources close to Becks, the football ambassador was joined by his three sons – Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz – on the set in South Kensington in London.

It was Ritchie, former husband of pop star Madonna, who approached Beckham to don a role in his latest movie. The deal was struck amid rumors that Beckham was getting ready to make his debut in Matthew Vaughan’s The Secret Service. Beckham had done a short stint in 2002 hit Bend It Like Beckham, appearing towards the close of the movie.

In The Man From U.N.C.L.E., which is a remake of the 1960’s Ritchie-directed and well-received American TV series, Beckham will have alongside popular stars such as Hugh Grant, Henry Cavill, Alicia Vikander and Armie Hammer. Cavill happened to find a place in the film after Tom Cruise, said to be close to Beckham’s family, dropped out of the project to accept another role.

Impressive Career

Arguably the most charismatic and highly-talented footballer England has ever seen, Beckham started his professional career almost 20 years before when he made his debut for Manchester United at the age of 17. He brought laurels for United by clinching the Premier League title for as many as six times and winning the FA Cup on two occasions. Beckham was also chiefly responsible for United winning the UEFA Champions League in 1999. Later, he moved to Real Madrid, with whom he remained for four seasons. It was during the final season that Beckham helped Madrid lift the La Liga Championship. He signed a contract with Major League Soccer club Los Angeles Galaxy from 2007 to 2012.

As regards Beckham’s international career, he debuted for England in 1996 when he was 21 and went on captain the national side for six years. Proud owner of 115 career appearances, he holds the distinction for making the maximum number of appearances as an outfield. Beckham also holds the record for being the first player from the UK to earn league titles in four different nations.

The former skipper of England football team has earlier tried his hand successfully in a series of commercials, which might have prompted him to think in terms of pursuing a career in acting. The Man From U.N.C.L.E is slated for release in 2014.
