There Will Be No Williams Sharapova Showdown

Serena Williams has officially withdrawn from the French Open due to a pectoral injury. The injury won’t allow her to serve and as she said, “It’s kind of hard to play when I can’t physically serve.” The 36 year-old athlete has just returned for her first match since giving birth to daughter, Alexis Olympia. Needless to say, she is extremely disappointed that she will not have the ability to finish out the tournament. She reports that it was hard to give up time with her daughter and family to prepare and is upset that it all ended with an injury. She tried different types of taping and other remedies to attempt to alleviate the pain, but nothing worked.

Williams was supposed to face off against five-time Grand Slam champ, Maria Sharapova. Like Williams, Sharapova is also making a comeback. Sharapova was under ban after she was caught blood doping. People were very excited to see the outcome of the match between the two freak athletes. Unfortunately, we will have to wait until next time.
