Williams Wins Her First Big Match Since Pregnancy

After 16 months, Serena Williams returned to the court at the French Open and pulled out a huge first round win against Czech Republic’s Kristyna Pliskova. Williams gave birth to a healthy baby girl last September and took no time retraining her body post-motherhood in order to once again prove she’s a superstar female athlete and that nothing holds her back.

Williams entered the tournament unseated and beat out Pliskova 7-6, 6-4. Her rank had recently plummeted worldwide after she became pregnant and stayed off the court for over a year, but that didn’t stop Williams for reclaiming her throne while donning a tight, Wakanda-inspired cat suit.

The game was not only just a big win for Williams, but for female athletes all over. Williams said after the win that her uniform itself represented “all the moms out there that had a tough pregnancy and have to come back and try to be fierce, in the middle of everything.”

But the focus should not be on her outfit, but on the fact she was able to pull off this incredible win in the first round of a Grand Slam such as the French Open. There is no doubt that Williams will continue to prove herself as one of the best American athletes of all time even after taking time to recover from her pregnancy.
