Selena Gomez Isn’t A Fan Of Social Media

Selena Gomez might have the third most-followed Instagram account, but that doesn’t stop her from being wary of social media and its influence on young people. In fact, Gomez said the invention of social media has been “terrible” for young people.

Gomez made the remarks at a press conference for her new film, “The Dead Don’t Die.” She said social media can have “devastating” effects, and young people shouldn’t hesitate to take a break if they feel it’s bringing them down.

“For my generation specifically, social media has been terrible,” Gomez said. “I understand that it’s amazing to use as a platform but it does scare me when you see how exposed these young girls and boys are. I think it’s dangerous for sure…it’s impossible to make it safe at this point. I’m grateful I have a platform. I don’t do a lot of pointless pictures. For me, I like to be intentional with it. I see these young girls … I’ll meet them at meet-and-greets, and they’re just devastated by bullying and not having a voice. I would be careful and allow yourself some time limits of when you should use it.”

Gomez, 26, has taken her own breaks from social media in the past, especially during her ongoing battle with the chronic autoimmune disease lupus.
