Entertainment News From The Marvel Universe

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the upcoming standalone film for Avengers character Black Widow will earn the character’s actress, Scarlett Johansson, a cool $15 million dollar paycheck. This is the same amount that Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth were paid to play Captain America and Thor in Avengers: Infinity War, and an unexpected boon from Marvel for a character’s first solo outing.

Robert Downey Jr. was only payed $500,000 for his first appearance as Tony Stark in Iron Man, though that was upped to $50 million for the first Avengers film. Chadwick Boseman earned $2 million for starring in Black Panther, which is expected to rise in the event of a sequel.

Avengers films have been grossing well over $1 billion ($2 billion in the case of Infinity War), which Marvel frequently translates to million-dollar bonuses for the leads based on how well the film does. If Black Widow breaks the box office, Johansson could very well make the most money out of any lead actor for a new solo Marvel hero movie. She’ll be competing for that title with Brie Larson, who is being paid $5 million for next year’s Captain Marvel.
