Justin Gallegos Offered Nike Contract

Justin Gallegos has made history as the first athlete with cerebral palsy to sign a three year contract with Nike.

20 year old, Justin Gallegos, who attends the University of Oregon, was surprised by John Douglas, Nike’s insight director, who attended the students running practice to hand deliver his new contract.

Overwhelmed with the news, Gallegos posted on Instagram: “Growing up with a disability, the thought of becoming a professional athlete is as I have said before like the thought of climbing Mt. Everest. It is definitely possible, but the odds are most definitely not in your favor! Hard work pays off!”

The emotional video of Gallegos being handed the contract before the race has been recently revealed and it is very heart warming. You can see the desire that he has for the sport and once it sinks in that he is now a professional, he sinks to his knees in floods of tears, as the emotions take over.

His Instagram post continued: “I was once a kid in braces who could barely put one foot in front of the other. Thank you everyone for helping show the world that there is no such thing as a disability.”

His achievement is remarkable and truly inspirational. He used to need a walker to help him get around when he was younger before taking part in physical therapy and running while in high school.

Earlier this year, he ran the Eugene Half Marathon in 2 hours 3 minutes and 49 seconds, his next goal is run the half marathon in under two hours, something that judging by his determination and drive, won’t take too long to accomplish. What a great role model.
