New Batman star was shocked to get the part

Robert Pattinson, best known for his role as Edward Cullen in Twilight, was tapped to play Batman in the latest installment of the superhero’s story. But Pattinson said he’s as shocked as everyone else that he got the role.

“It’s kind of insane,” Pattinson said in an interview with Esquire. “I was so far away from ever thinking it was a realistic prospect. I literally do not understand how I’ve got it, at all.”

And he’s not the only surprising choice in the upcoming Batman cast. Although the directors are keeping the details under wraps, rumor has it that Jonah Hill will play one of the series’ famous villains.

According to Variety, director Matt Reeves had long wanted Hill for the role. No one knows who the surprise villain is, but some speculate it’s The Penguin.

Pattinson said the new Batman film’s script is “gorgeous.”

“It’s a beautiful script, very musical, the text is gorgeous,” he said. “And I’m enough of a nature boy that I knew that we were gonna be in full-on nature. I’m enough of an athlete to know that there were gonna be some physical things to do. And I’m enough of an actor to know that it would be challenging to do this very full-blown character but to give him a reality that really gets under your skin.”
