Harvin reveals he ha a drug use problem in the past

Former Seattle Seahawks receiver Percy Harvin is opening up about a substance abuse problem during his days in the NFL, saying he wants to end the stigma around substance abuse and addiction. Harvin may have a Super Bowl ring, but he says “there’s not a game I played that I wasn’t high.”

Harvin told The Bleacher Report he used marijuana before every game to cope with his severe anxiety.

“There’s not a game – there’s not a game I played that I wasn’t high,” Harvin said. “And that’s what I kind of want the world to see today, is it’s not a stigma and people doing it and getting into a whole bunch of trouble. It’s just people that’s just living regular life that just got deficiencies or maybe just want to enjoy themselves. It’s a natural way to do so.”

Despite winning a Super Bowl in 2014, Harvin says his days in the NFL were the worst of his life. Things started to get better when he sought help and was diagnosed with an anxiety disorder.

“When I was diagnosed, I still didn’t acknowledge it,” Harvin said. “But when I started noticing it was when I started speaking or going into different environments, particularly the press conference with the Seahawks. My shirt was sweating, they had to bring me water a couple of times during my press conference.”

Now, he’s speaking out in the hopes other people will recognize the signs of anxiety and seek treatment.
