RNC Is Wasting No Time Raising Funds For 2020 Election

The Republican National Committee announced Tuesday that they raised $105 million dollars for Donald Trump’s 2020 presidential campaign in the second quarter of 2020. About half that money was raised by the RNC, with the other $50 million donated directly to the Trump campaign. The announcement shows that Trump has vastly more resources than any of the twenty-plus Democratic candidates running for the nomination, many of whom are competing for donors.

In comparison, the leading Democratic candidates have raised relatively little money. South Bend, Indiana mayor Pete Buttigieg raised about $25 million in the second quarter of 2019, and Bernie Sanders, a Vermont Senator, raised $18 million.

“The RNC’s record-breaking fundraising has allowed us to identify troves of new supporters online and continue investing in our unprecedented field program,” RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said in a press release. “Our grassroots army is already hard at work–putting us in prime position to re-elect President Trump and Republicans across the country.”

The Trump campaign ended the 2016 election season with a surplus of $19 million. As CNN reports, the Trump campaign of 2020 is vastly different from the first time around, when Trump relied mostly on small, individual donors and had a strained relationship with the Republican National Committee. But now, CNN reports, “the Trump campaign and RNC are now practically one entity…Nearly 20 months out from the presidential election, the Trump campaign is already more organized and better-structured than its 2016 predecessor ever was.”

The Trump campaign has hired dozens more staffers and has an efficient operation running across the country, CNN reports.
