It’s been sixteen years since the last installment, but Reese Witherspoon says “Legally Blonde 3” is in the works. Witherspoon says the new film, which follows the hits “Legally Blonde” (2001) and “Legally Blonde 2: Red, White, and Blonde” (2003), is slated for release on Valentine’s Day 2020.

Witherspoon played the beloved character Elle Woods, a sorority girl turned law student, in both films. She announced part three on Ellen DeGeneres’ show.

“We’re meeting about it. I mean, we’re definitely talking about it. I don’t know. Do you guys want to see Legally Blonde 3?” Witherspoon asked the audience, which cheered enthusiastically. “I mean it’s sort of about women being underestimated and I think it’s a good idea. That things have changed, but not that much has changed!”

Witherspoon told the audience she loves Elle Woods as much as they do.

“I love playing that character. She’s so amazing. I don’t know. If you guys want it, I guess I’ll do it,” Witherspoon said.

Witherspoon didn’t offer any more spoilers about part three of Elle Woods’ journey as a lawyer who struggles to be taken seriously by her peers. For now, Witherspoon is focused on her TV series, “Big Little Lies.” The hit series is returning to HBO this summer with a new co-star, Meryl Streep.
