Mayor Of Chicago Wants To Investigate Smollett Case

Jussie Smollett walks away from 16 felony charges of disorderly conduct his attempt to stage a hate crime for media attention, and everyone is seeing red. Many are outraged with the dismissal of the Jussie Smollett case, including the Mayor of Chicago. Mayor Rahm Emanuel is investigating the reason behind the decision of the prosecutors to dismiss the case.

Emanuel says that Smollett abused the city of Chicago wasting police resources and wants to get to the root of why the charges against him were abruptly dropped. “The state’s attorney’s office is saying he’s not exonerated, he actually did commit this hoax. He’s saying he’s innocent and his words are true. They better get their stories straight, because this is making fools of all of us,” Emanuel told the US news channel ABC.

Not only did Smollett was local police forces in Chicago, but also had the FBI get involved in the investigation. The evidence shows that Smollett paid two actors $3,500 to play the assailants in his staged hate crime with an additional $100 for props including rope, ski masks, gloves, and red MAGA baseball caps.

Emanuel isn’t the only public official that thinks that the prosecution made the wrong choice in the Smollett case. Chicago Police Superintendent, Eddie Johnson, is against the prosecutor’s decision after his appearance in court and Smollett denying that he was responsible for staging the attack.

Chicago’s chief prosecutor, Kim Foxx, justifies her choice of dropping all charges since she felts people would be divided in thinking that Smollett deserves jail time or 16 felony counts of disorderly conduct is too excessive. She also says that there was little chance that Smollett wouldn’t serve prison time if convicted.
