Ask All The Right Questions!

Everyone wants to know that their child is in good hands with a nanny or babysitter while they’re away. Sometimes it can be hard to tell if you’ve found the perfect person to watch your kid. Before you do let someone you don’t know too well babysit your child, it’s essential that you ask these questions.

What style of communication do you use while caring for the kids? For example, does the nanny prefer text messaging over calling? How quick are you going to respond back? I would personally like a fast responding babysitter who would only text or call with questions or updates. That way I would know they’re paying attention to my child.

What do you do in an emergency situation?
If my child is choking, or accidentally ingests something that they shouldn’t have, what would you do? What if the house is on fire or someone breaks in? Can I trust you to protect my child? Will you notify me of what happened and how things are turning out?

How do you feel about cleaning the house?
The real question is this: are you going to keep the house the same way as it was when you first walked in? It’s a pet peeve of mine for someone to come to your home and leave a mess. Also, don’t go through my personal stuff!

What fun activities do you have planned for the kids?
The last thing that I want is someone who leaves my child to watch TV while they’re sitting in the other room on the phone. Do your job and engage with the child!
