Kangaroo Chili Goes Viral
Everyone likes to experiment new foods and experiencing new culture, but a school in Nebraska may have gone a step too far when they served a kangaroo chili to their students.
Parents of the students were left outraged when they found out that their children had been fed the animal for their school dinner at Potter-Dix School, as staff had failed to inform the parents about what was on the menu.
Superintendent Mike Williams was forced to issue an apology to parents, he said: “On behalf of the Potter-Dix Public Schools, I apologize for the anxiety and any hard that this has caused individual students and/or families.”
In the letter that was sent home to the parents, Williams has revealed that the head cook at the school, Kevin Frei who stated that the decision to mix meat and add kangaroo was because of the meats nutritional value as it is a very lean meat.
Williams’ letter continued: “If a family wants to eat exotic foods, they can do so on their own time- not at school. If we were to have food or ingredients that are out of the ordinary, they should be listed on the menu so that the students and families are aware of what they would be being served.”
School officials stated that they didn’t think that kangaroo meat was dangerous or unhealthy, while the USDA also believed that it met their standards.
