Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers could not practice Wednesday, due to what he called a sprained knee.
The Minnesota Vikings take no comfort from that.
Rodgers, limping and gimping, piloted the Packers to a ridiculous 24-23 comeback win on Sunday night against the Chicago Bears. He returned to the game in the second half after missing a chunk of the second quarter due to his knee and led four straight scoring drives – three for touchdowns – as the Packers erased a 20-0 deficit.
He shouldn’t have to practice after that. Maybe ever. But he certainly does not have to risk more discomfort to get ready for a Vikings defense he knows well and that injured him last season, causing him to miss nine games with a broken collarbone. He’ll gin up some adrenaline.
“I want to play, obviously,” Rodgers said Wednesday.
If he really needs to know whether he will be able to go, he should ask Vikings coach Mike Zimmer.
“He walks on water, so I’m sure he’s going to play,” Zimmer said.
Rodgers could barely put any weight on his left knee as he eviscerated the Bears and he said he’s not a “big believer” in pain medications, so he’ll gut out the knee with treatment through the week. With the Packers playing at home again, he need not worry about travel over the weekend. His biggest concern will be that aggressive Minnesota defense.
Yes, it’s most likely that he will play.
Can he really walk on water? As long as he knows where the rocks are.
