Maybe I’m too old fashioned (of course I am). Maybe I live in the past (of course I do). But I hold certain values and here is one of them – one football team wears a dark uniform and one football team wears a white uniform when they play each other.
Not a team in blue and another in burgundy. Not a team in purple and another in black. No. It’s wrong. It may even violate the Geneva Conventions.
But go tell the NFL that. So when the New York Jets visit the Buffalo Bills on Thursday night, it’s Color Rush night. Every team playing on a Thursday night this year has a third uniform for that special occasion.
Except when the NFL did it last year with the Jets and Bills, the Jets wore all green and the Bills wore all red. Fine if you’re decking out a Christmas tree but…viewers who are colorblind could not tell one from the other because red and green color blindness is the most common kind. And those viewers complained.
The compromise for this game is the Bills wearing those hideous red garments while the Jets go mostly in white (as we traditionalists would insist) instead of kelly green.
“This is our normal white jersey and white pants, so the numbers and the letters are our dark hunter green. They are not the Color Rush green,” Chris Pierce, the Jets senior director of fan commerce, told NFL.com.
I think I liked it better before teams had a senior director of fan commerce. But I’m old fashioned.
