James Marsden Cast For Film’s 2019 Release Date

Video game movies are making a resurgence. With the release of a feature film for the franchises Warcraft, Assassin’s Creed, and Tomb Raider, production company Paramount has joined the race to reboot classic games into new, cinematic adventures. This time, however, they’re taking on the blue speed-demon himself, Sonic the Hedgehog.

This beloved Sega character was a staple rival to Nintendo’s Mario in the 90s, but has since drawn criticism for a string of shoddy games released over the past few years. It seems bold for Paramount to pick up such a controversial project, but maybe Westworld‘s James Marsden can redeem the hype.

Regardless, it’ll be some big (and fast) shoes to fill.

Marsden is the first member of the cast to be revealed for the movie. It’s release date is currently set for November 2019. This adventure will also be the first time Sega has adapted a video game for the big screen.

Other big names in the movie’s production include Jeff Fowler, Academy Award nominee for his short film Gopher Broke and visual effects contributor to 2009’s Where The Wild Things Are live-action adaptation. Additionally, Deadpool director Tim Miller will serve as an executive producer.

We’ll make sure to keep you updated on any news on the blue blur’s big screen appearance.
